How to evaluate a borrower’s management and its industry…Can Your Borrower’s Management Team Meet and Beat Its Industry Competitors?
Evaluating a borrower’s ability to repay extends beyond its financial condition and performance. The borrower’s industry is the economic bubble around its business, so identifying industry boundaries and barriers, charting an industry’s ups and downs over the business cycle, and sizing up the borrower’s capacity and capabilities give lenders and analysts the ability to evaluate the borrower’s chances of success in this industry. Evaluating a borrower’s management means determining whether its leadership has the combination of experience, training, and skills to compete and prosper in its chosen business.
