Let’s face it…times are different and community banks must do things differently. We just can’t continue along…just to get along.

No longer can we allow ourselves to be painted with the same “bank” brush as all other financial institutions, mortgage brokers, credit unions and investment banks.

Community banks must remain unified, work to differentiate our industry, and speak with our own voice…the community banking voice. Together, we must focus our time, energy and financial resources on the improvement and preservation of our industry...the community banking industry.

For more than 35 years, the mission of CBAO has been exclusively focused on doing just that, and together, our efforts are bringing results that substantially benefit community banks and thrifts.

In recent years, we have had tremendous success on the regulatory and legislative front in Columbus and Washington, DC. We have successfully negotiated, fully or partially, exclusions for community banks and thrifts from damaging legislation, such as HR 1106 (the cram down bill), HR 3126 (the CFPA bill), S 1927 (the credit card moratorium bill), and HB 3 (the mortgage foreclosure mitigation bill). This type of legislation would have only added additional financial and regulatory burden to our industry.

And while others have opposed, we have also been successful in our efforts to garner support for legislation that would specifically benefit community banks and thrifts. HR 686 (a permanent increase in FDIC insurance), HR 2676 (the Community Financial Institutions Act), and HR 2897 (the Bank Accountability and Risk Assessment Act) are a few examples of legislation that specifically benefit community banks and thrifts.
